Alzira is part of the group of artisans who have dedicated themselves to working with palm for the longest time. Since 1991, she has participated in numerous craft fairs throughout the Algarve, including Fatacil, where she exhibited her work for many years. She has always participated in the Feira da Serra and Feira de Artesanato de Loulé.
Born in Boliqueime, she learned to work with palm from her mother at age 11 and at 18 earned her first income selling her own pieces. From then on, she never stopped. She currently divides her time between her work and farm work.
The pieces she enjoys making most are traditional designs: baskets, rugs, fans, doormats, and dukes—one of her trademarks. She is a master of colorful patterns, 7- and 9-branch work, beak work, and chain work. She is proud of her work and of being part of the Palm Weaving Shop since its founding.
