Manuela Limas

Born in Penina, a few kilometers from Sarnadas, Manuela Limas helped her grandmother tread esparto grass as a child, unaware of its purpose. Upon marrying, she moved to Sarnadas and learned about the uses of these items—from hammocks and ropes to rugs and donkey heads. She worked with artisans from neighboring villages, producing pieces with the material given to Dona Aldegundes, later selling the finished product. After years away, she returned with the Esparto Grass Studio project, now creating her own pieces. She values the transmission of knowledge to younger generations and the interaction with colleagues and visitors, ensuring that this art is not lost.
