Maria José Ramos

Born in Sarnadas, Maria José Ramos first encountered esparto grass at the age of 14, learning to work with different shapes that arrived from artisans in neighboring villages to the house of Dona Aldegundes. There, she made rugs in various shapes and combinations. Around the age of 20, she left the craft but returned at 69, joining the Esparto Grass Studio project. Since then, she has created pieces that combine tradition and modernity, often with the input of designers. For Maria José, each completed piece is a source of pride and joy.
